The Titanic, true grit, independence day and Christopher Nolan. What do they have in common? They're not in the Restart film festival!
Restart is an initiative that promotes independent filmmaking and is a host of the bizarre the quirky and whatever else makes independent cinema so good.

    Camera Mapping

This is the stuff we always wanted to do ever since we saw the opening titles of Panic Room. It was one of the first movies using camera mapping and in a cool way! We love you David Fincher!!

We have tackled camera mapping before so we wanted to push the envelope a little bit further. That's where Jeremy Goldberg comes in. He is an insanely talented photographer / director with some stunning
time lapses. Head on to his website to see what we're talking about! He had seen some of the work we had done with still frames and approached us with time lapse sequences for a similar treatment.

So this time not only did we have to deal with a lot more geometry and image complexity but we had to deal with moving images as well!!

Everything was cut up in After Effects and a lot of time was spent stamping to ensure the parallax scrolling would work without showing parts of the front building on the back building etc. The animated textures were then imported to cinema 4d and projected to the previously modeled geometry.

By the way huge props to maxon for creating such a stable program. It didn't even crash once and there were a lot of high res animated textures loaded up in one scene!

    99 frames of animation!

Cinema 4d is one of our favorite tools. So when a new release came out (r13) with all sorts of bells and whistles we were like children in a candy store. Well I guess we're still children deep inside since we still like candy. But I digress....
This image was created for the 99 frames contest whose sole purpose is to showcase the new features of Cinema4d r13. Right from the get go we wanted to create an image that would look cool and stand on its own even if you take it out of the contest context. We also wanted to use the new features in a way that would complement the image and not just be an afterthought. Just toggle all the switches on and see what happens...
One of the coolest new features is the physical camera. You can basically setup a scene like you would in real world. F stops, lenses etc. So we just had to play with that!
We wanted it to look like it's taken out of a kids' show title sequence. When the little car gets out of frame the name of the show comes up!
For all you tech nerds the images uses depth of field, chromatic aberration and motion blur (mostly seen in the animation part of it).

Don't forget to check out the 99frame animation!

Vimeo was a bit naughty with the compression and color profiles but hopefully you get the point!

UPDATE: Our video was one of the winners of the contest! What a nice way to start 2012!

    Camera mapping to the extremes!

    What is this you say?
Well the scientific explanation would be a series of static images displayed in rapid succession in order to create the illusion of movement.
A more simple explanation would be making cool shit, move!
We wanted to see how far we can push the most simplistic of elements. A picture and a series of sound samples.

    Facebook game

MINI is a wonderful brand where everything goes! They're playful and edgy always trying something new. This time they wanted to communicate a special edition of MINI just for Greece. The purpose of the game is to find through the traffic as many MINI special edition cars as possible. The players who found the most would win special prizes.
Our work was to create the environment, the interface and several other pages of the game.
The tools used were a mixture of Cinema 4d, Photoshop and Illustrator.

    3d illustration

He might be past his prime but boy has he enjoyed life! Trying to capture the rough and gruff nature of a rocker who still manages to look good even though
he is with one foot in the hole! The base mesh was built in cinema 4D then brought back to Zbrush and then back to cinema for the final rendering.
Final post work was done in Photoshop.

    3d modelling

We could try and be witty about this, mixing movie trivia (it starts with breakfast and ends with “tiffany’s”) and design (hey Phillipe!) but who are we kidding? This is just a toaster!! Instead we are going to smack you with a lot of technical jargon. The scene uses global illumination and ambient occlusion while the objects use anisotropic texturing and the antialising is way up on this one. x6 to be precise! If you weren’t impressed with that we don’t know what will...

A dimly lit train, a stranger, a frozen moment in time. Sounds mysterious right? That's because it is!! Very inspired by the king of the dark, photographer
Gregory Crewdson. We will let you decide what this is about…
Cinema 4d, Zbrush, HDRI, Ambient occlusion, hair, a lot of shader work and the list goes on and on...just a typical everyday workflow!

    Illustration

To celebrate the opening of our studio we created this poster which as you might have guessed is about... us!!
We wanted the visual to be informed by the logo and the actual name of the studio. As a result the circular lines of the logo create this black and white hole that sucks everything inside!
The two faces going into this black hole of sorts represent the two people that make the studio.
As if the name of the studio wasn't clear enough we put the last finishing touch! Black drips oozing out of this black (and white) hole!

  • BU packaging
    Packaging design for teen fragrance.

Packaging designs for the relaunch of a teen fragrance by a leading consumer company in Greece. Bold colors and dynamic compositions were our main theme,
rather than the same old boring golden halls where movie-stars walk by.
These are just a fraction of the designs we suggested. We love them all like our babies but come on we all have favorites...

    Food packaging design

    Miam miam!
All these packs (and they were a lot) make us hungry! Buono wanted a redesign for their wonderfully tasty brand. Not only for their logo but for their packaging
as well. Something that would look classy but also spiced up for the new generation of consumers.
We stuck with the colors that speak of the Mediterranean and designs that make people think of their mommas favorite recipes.
